  • I apologize if someone has already put this on the board, but I found this interesting. I was browsing through the travel board on Ebay and saw (much to my suprise) someone selling two AC upgrade certificates on Ebay. (Auction number 300153349287) There are 2 pictures on the auction which very clearly show the name of the individual as well as their Aeroplan number. Several people have posted questions regarding the ability to transfer these certificates, however, the seller swears up and down that they can be used by someone else. Now, if memory serves, AC changed their policy a few years back just for this reason, so that people could not sell, or exchange these certificates. Am I wrong or is this a case of buyer beware?

  • AC Corporate Security is very swift. Shouldn't usually take this long to have eBay stop the auction and provide them the member's contact information. Lately they've been buying certificates to ensure a sale actually took place, then taking appropriate action.

I don't see on what basis AC would have status to go ask Ebay to stop the auction.

Plus, why should they care? Especially since the buyer of the cert won't be able to use it anyway. Plus, they can go after Miss Cathrine (sic) *** directly anyway.

  • Just as an update, the auction is no longer up. It looks as though the seller ended it early. I wonder if that has to do with the fact that they figured they actually couldn't sell them or if the AeroPlan police got to them!!

The Aeroplan police aren't that swift. I suspect the lack of interest caused the premature termination.

  • All she says when replying to question is ... I recall, I once did, I think ... could very well be she has not done so with the new certs and is thinking of the old certs ... hope no one gets burned by her ignorance (or maybe she is just getting some $$$ for certs she will never use!)

  • So...The person whose name is on the certificate can request the upgrade for someone else, but that "someone else" cannot do it themselves correct? And if I am not mistaken, the member who is awarded the certificate must be on the same flight....

IIRC you are in fact correct.

  • The good news is it appears that most people were as skeptical as I was about it and the price is still at $0.99. It's kind of funny that the seller even discloses the fact that Super Elite member must be on the same flight!!

The individual in question will likely not be an Aeroplan member very much longer.

Are they selling the cert as a tool to u/g an unknown passenger who will be on same flight as SE cert holder?
