  • I'm on AC119 (the morning 767 flight) YYZ-YYC tomorrow which is Y0/J0 and has been Y0 for a couple days. The 3 flights before it and 1 after it are also all Y0 with a couple J seats open. The 4 last flights out are Y1, Y2, Y4, Y5 respectively. I know this changes from minute to minute and hour to hour, but with only 12 Y seats open all day, flights seem to be pretty full.

I plan to show up to the airport early and volunteer for VDB, out of curiosity, what could I expect if they can only get me out 6-7 hours later? or not even on a flight at all that day? Of course I know its a possibility that more seats can open up also.

I've also noticed that half the flights on this route on Sunday are sold out, as well as EVERY nonstop flight on Monday and Tuesday being completely sold out (in Y) as well as a couple flights on every other day next week. Is something big going in in YYC? Is this normal? I just thought it was pretty weird, never seen that on too many other routes before esp in winter...

  • Nah :) I did have to get there on Sunday. For the hell of it though I asked if they needed volunteers to give up their seats and the GA said they didn't.

I did get re-routed onto a nonstop on the way back today however instead of doing YYC-YEG-YYZ as scheduled and they put me in J again, I'm assuming cuz Y was full. When I was told I was being put on the nonstop I asked the GA if there was anything open in executive and that I was *Gold (just for the hell of it) and he said he'd try but no guarantee (was traveling on a T+ fare). When the next GA gave me my BP, sure enough it was in J. Didn't see if Y was full in the end, but there were a few J seats empty.

So all in all an excellent trip, both ways in J, got there for when I had to, $400 in MCOs, 3 free meals, and two free rides to/from YYZ...

  • In the YYZ MLL now, flight is delayed 2.5 hours for mechanical, still "overbooked" according to AC agent.... I guess I'll see what happens when someone gets to the gate....

  • I got VDB'ed off of the 10:00 AC119 to YYC, which was delayed until 12:30, and then downgraded from 762 to 321, so overbooked by 45-50 seats the agent said.

I got a $200 MCO, Lunch and Dinner vouchers, and confirmed in exec class on the AC145 at 20:40 which is now also fully booked, as well as the last flight out at 22:45.

Y space is currently only open on one flight tomorrow, none on mon or tues, and 2 flights on Wednesday... very packed still into YYC. Very similar situation into YEG, but YVR seems fine....

I might try to get VDB'ed again tonight to make it my first successful "bump run" :D ^

  • Mike will you be vdb'ing all day again or did you finally make it to your destination?:D

  • Ah I see. Thanks for the explanation.

  • It's reading week at the local universities - basically a week with no classes - so perhaps that explains some of the extra volume.

I'll second that, I'm one of those university students flying YYZ-YYC before connecting home to YQQ. With the big central canadian schools out for the week, all the west coast students are flying home

Lethbridge is hosting the Scotties, every hotel in town is apparently full according to one of my customers. I had to cancel my calls there next week as I couldn't get a flight in.

  • Looks like I just opened up a seat for one of you lucky FTer, my connecting flight from YGK was cancelled due to a lack of plane... :@

  • Ummm....what is "VDB'ed"?

DB: "Denied boarding" due to oversold situation.

V: "Voluntary" for someone who volunteers to not fly in exchange for compensation.

I: "Involuntary" for someone unwillingly denied a seat.

    Hence VDB and IDB.

In a sentence: "If I had known the guy beside me was going to have IBD, I would have been happy to be VDB for this flight!"

  • I volunteered my seat on the 8pm flight last night and got another $200 MCO as well as limo downtown and back to the airport this morning (chose that instead of hotel). Confirmed in executive class this morning at 10AM, in the MLL now...

Flights are full again today with no economy space open and 12 business seats all day on the nonstops to YYC.

  • Good for you. You're a gate agents dream....a bumped passenger that is happy! Let us know how you do on the return.^

University students with too much money will use YYC as the gateway to Skiing Week festivities.

Oddly enough I was able to get a Classic award non-stop YYZ-YYC for Tuesday only a few weeks ago.
